Memorial Day
It is true that the death of our soldiers have secured the bounds of our freedom. Their sacrifice, although often captured in poetic and sentimental verse, is real and priceless. I owe much of the liberties I have today to that sacrifice. I am grateful.
I wish it was also true that the value of all human life was known and respected by soldiers and leaders throughout the world, and that that value was seen as precariously balanced on the very nature of humanity and our continued progress. For without an agreed on value of each and every human life, we will forever be destined to memorialize those lost in the ironic, demonic and tragically necessary wars of human aggression and self expression.
